Research Note The only instance of a middle name is the letter "Y" in her marriage announcement in the NY Daily Tribune.

This birthdate is calculated from the tallies in the 1840 census. The newspaper notice of Mary's death in 1859 reported her age as 21, suggesting a birth year of 1837 or 38.5

According to the entry for James in the Handbook of Texas, they had a daughter who died at the age of two, shortly before Mary died.7,8 
Gravestone There is a gravestone for Mary in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky. The inscription is: Mary Bonnycastle, wife of James B Shaw, died July 7 1859. On the same stone is inscribed: James B Shaw, died Nov 15 1889, aged 70 years. [Note: there is no entry for Mary's burial in the Cave Hill Cemetery online database]9 
(Mentioned) WillMary was mentioned in the will of her mother Ann Mason Bonnycastle dated 12 Dec 1872. Her mother left money for her granddaughters to buy diamond rings "because I promised my dear little Mary the one I wore which I now leave to Ann."10
