The attestation papers included the following information: James Kinross Miller, born Stirling, Scotland on 16th July 1890, next-of-kin mother Mary Miller of Qu'appelle Saskatchewan, Electrician (telephone), not married, served 2 years with 3rd Field Troop Can Eng Regiment, and currently belongs to a militia.
Physicial description: 5' 9", expanded chest 35 3/4 inches, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, Presbyterian, 2 var. right arm, linear scar palm right hand opposite little finger, and scarring right upper abdomen.1

MilitaryHe was discharged from Can Engineers 2nd Field Coy in consequence of commission in Imperial Army Worcs Reg on 18 Oct 1918 in London. Military character very good. Served in France 3 yrs 2 mos; entitled to one wound stripe; military medal 1917. Trade: accountant. Residence: Riding Court, Datchet, Buckinghamshire.1

Residence-Moved In 1920, James Stirling Kinross Miller moved to Calgary.4 
1921 CensusJames appeared on the 1921 Census of Calgary, Alberta, at 1025 15th Ave W. He was a lodger, age 31, single, born in Scotland, immigrated in 1910, Presbyterian, and worked as a Bookkeeper for a Hardware Company, earning $1500.5

MILLER - May 18th, 1970 James Kinross S. Miller, aged 79 years, beloved husband of Mrs Elizabeth Miller, Central Park Lodge. Besides his loving wife he is survived by a son, James Miller, Montreal, Que; 2 daughters, Mrs. E.D. Knowles, Calgary, and Mrs. H. J. Grey, Vancouver, B.C; a sister, Mrs. O. J. Waterman, Saskatoon, Sask; six grandchildren. Born in Braco, Scotland, Mr Miller had lived in Calgary since 1920. He was an accountant and auditor by profession. He was a past president and director, and latterly an honorary life member of the Glencoe Club. Services conducted by Rev. Dr. R. H. MacKinnon were held in "Park Memorial Chapel" to-day at 10.30 a.m. Interment Mountain View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.4
