1881 CensusHerbert E Jones appeared on the 1881 Census of Ockbrook, Derbyshire, at Church St Ockbrook House. He was 26 years old, a Mechanical Engineer with the Midland Railway, born in Huddersfield York and was a visitor to the John Reid family [his future father-in-law].2 
MarriageHe married Elisabeth Morrison Reid, daughter of John Reid and Agnes Roberts, in 1881 in England.3
 
1891 CensusHerbert Edward and Elizabeth Morrison Jones appeared on the 1891 Census of Marple, Cheshire, at Waterside (Spring Bank), enumerated 5 Apr 1891. Herbert Edward was 36, employed as a Mechanical Engineer, Dist Locomotive Supt. Midland Railway, and was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Elizabeth Morrison was 28 and born in Scotland. They had one daughter, Elizabeth Marion (5), as well as Elizabeth's mother Agnes Reid (47, widow), a general servant and a nurse-housemaid.1 
1901 CensusHerbert Edward and Elizabeth Marison [sic] Jones appeared on the 1901 Census of Oswestry, Shropshire, at Carrsglwyd. Herbert Edward was 46, a Mechanical Engineer and employer, and was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Elizabeth Marison was 41 and born in Scotland. With them were their children Doris Agnes (8) and Herbert Alan Reid (5), along with a cook and housemaid.4 
1911 CensusHerbert E and Elisabeth M Jones appeared on the 1911 Census of Oswestry, Shropshire, at Carreylwyd. Herbert was a mechanical engineer and locomotive superintendent for Cambrian Railways, 56 years old, birthplace Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Elisabeth was 51, the mother of 3 children, all still living, and was born in Glasgow. They had been married 29 years. Their children, all born in Marple, Cheshire, were Elisabeth Marion (25), Doris Agnes (18), and Herbert A R (15). They had three servants - a cook, a waitress, and a housemaid.5 
(Witness) Marriage Herbert E Jones witnessed the marriage of his brother-in-law William Allan Reid and Ethel Walker Boam on 14 Feb 1917 in All Souls St Marylebone, London.6 
DeathHerbert died on 20 Jun 1926.7
