Research Note | Piecing together Sarah's story took a bit of genealogical sleuthing. The first sign of her as part of this family was in the 1877 probate file of her father, where she was mentioned as Sarah Jones. His children were not mentioned in birth order and since her father had children over a wide span of years, she could have been born anywhere from before 1810 to after 1852. A search for Keen/Jones marriages was negative for Perry County but there was a possibility in neighboring Franklin County. Next she was found as a 6 year old with the House family in Perry County in the 1850 census - perhaps she was visiting, perhaps they raised her. Probably her mother died in childbirth or in the next few years as her father John married again in 1848. In the 1860 census, she was enumerated as Sarah King working for a Jones family in Franklin County which ties in nicely with the marriage to John R Jones in 1863. |
