Samuel was 27, a Farmer owning land valued at $400, and was born in Tennessee. Nancy was 25 and born in Tennessee. With them were Thomas (10), William H (2), and George W (4 months), all born in Illinois.4 
1860 CensusSam and Nancy Cormack appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Potosi Township, Linn County, Kansas Territory, enumerated 13 Jul 1860. Sam was 38, a Farmer with land valued at $1600 and personal estate of $560, and was born in Tennessee. Nancy was 36 and born in Tennessee. She could not read or write. With them were children Thomas (17), Wm (13), Geo (11) who attended school and were born in Illinois, then Alfred (5, Missouri), and John (3, Kansas Territory). Next to the Cormacks were Nancy's sister Jane and her family.2 
DeathNancy died on 16 Jan 1870 in Linn County, Kansas.5
 
1870 CensusSamuel Carmack appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Potosi Township, Linn County, Kansas, enumerated 29 Jun 1870. He was 46, a Farmer owning land worth $4500 and personal estate of $1475, and was born in Tennessee. With him were children George W (20, helps on farm, born Illinois), Isaac A (14, helps on farm, born Missouri), John P (12, Kansas), Melvina J (8, Kansas). Also in the household were his sister-in-law Jane Prock and her two children.6 
Note.After Nancy's death, Samuel married Nancy's sister Jane who was also widowed.
