The informant was his mother, Georgie Hay-Raby of 117 Daly Avenue, Ottawa. Registered on 29 July 1917. Parents were married in April? 1899 at illegible [ink blot] location.1 |

(with Mother) 1911 Census | Bonycastle Lackey [sic] appeared on the 1911 Census of Ottawa, Carleton County, Ontario with his mother and stepfather Richard Raby. He was 11, born in March 1900 in Ontario, and attended school 9 months that year. He followed his married sister Kathleen Lackey in the census, so the enumerator probably made a mistake recording his surname as Lackey as well.4 |

The attestation papers included the following information: Charles Bonnycastle Hay, address #200 Fifth Ave., Ottawa, born March 11th 1898 in Toronto, Bank Clerk, single, next-of-kin mother Amelia Raby of 72 Beatty Ave. Toronto. Notation in margin of form says, "Actual age claimed on 3/9/17. Birth certificate showed date of birth 11/3/1900." Description on enlistment: 18 years 1 month old, 5' 10 1/4", expanded chest 37", fair complexion, grey eyes, fair hair, scar left wrist, mole Rt. collar bone, Church of England.2 |

1930 Census | There is a curious entry on the 1930 Federal Census of Los Angeles, California, at 1165 Stearns Drive. The head of household is Mary Hay, male, age 30, married at 25, born in Canada, parents born in Canada, immigration year and naturalization status unknown, Insurance Agent, WW veteran. The wife is Mary Hay, 26, married at 21, born in Missouri, father born in Kentucky, mother in Missouri, music teacher.6 |

Details: Bonny Castle Hay, native of Canada, age 30, residence Los Angeles; Mary Johnson, native of Missouri, age 27, residence Los Angeles; They took out the license on 16 September 1930 and were married the following March by a Municipal Court Judge.7 |
