1851 CensusFermor B and Caroline A Gritton appeared on the 1851 Census of Brompton, Gillingham parish, Kent, at 9 Park Terrace, enumerated 30 Mar 1851. Fermor was 28, a Lieutenant in the Marines, and was born in Lewisham, Kent. Caroline was 31 and born in Calne, Wiltshire. Their children Caroline Sophia Louisa and James Fermor were living with them, as well as a house servant and a nursery maid.6 
1861 CensusCaroline A Gritton appeared on the 1861 Census of Calne, Wiltshire, at The Green East, enumerated 7 Apr 1861. She was 39, married, an Officers wife, and was born in Calne, Wiltshire. Her children Henry, James Fermor, Charlotte Mary, George Bonnycastle and Elizabeth Anne were with her, as well as two house servants. Her husband has not been found in the census and was perhaps serving out of the country.7 
1871 CensusFermor Bonnycastle and Caroline Amelia [sic] Gritton appeared on the 1871 Census of Langley Burrell, Wiltshire, at Tytherton, enumerated 2 Apr 1871. Fermor was 48, a Major in the Army, retired, and was born in Lewisham. Caroline was 50 and born in Calne. Their children Caroline Sophia Louisa, Charlotte Mary, George Bonnycastle and Elizabeth Anne were living with them, along with one general servant.8 
1881 CensusFermon B [sic] and Caroline Gritton appeared on the 1881 Census of Holt, Wiltshire, at Eglinton Villa, enumerated 3 Apr 1881. Fermor was 59, a retired Major R. Marines, and born in Lewisham. Caroline was 62 and born in Calne. Their children Caroline Sophia Louisa and Elizabeth Anne were living with them, as well as one general servant.3 
DeathCaroline died on 12 Jun 1882 in Holt, Wiltshire.2,9
