1881 CensusAlfred T and Elizabeth Fernee appeared on the 1881 Census of St Pancras, Middlesex, at 80 Crowndale Road. Alfred T was 31, a Railway Porter, and born in Paddington, Middlesex. Elizabeth was 30 and born in Southwark, Surrey. Their children were Alfred P N (9), Archibald T (7), Elizabeth B (5), Herbet S (4), Alice M (2), and Walter R (6 months). The oldest three were scholars.3

Elizabeth was 35 [sic], worked at the registry offices, and was born in Southwark. Their children were Alfred P Fernie (19, postman), Archibald T Fernie (18, butcher), and Alice Fernie (15). They also had one household servant.4 
1901 CensusWilliam Francis and Elizabeth Spring appeared on the 1901 Census of Balham, London, at 95 High Road. William was an omnibus driver, age 39, born in Camden Town. Elizabeth was 49 and born in Kennington, Surrey. They had three children: Maud (10), Minnie (8), and William (5). None of the children from Elizabeth's first marriage were with them.6
