MarriageHe married Elizabeth Tassie, daughter of James Maitland Tassie and Ann Inkster, on 29 Dec 1886 in Owen Sound, Grey County, Ontario.
Information from the marriage certificate: Robert Chalmers, 25, residence Owen Sound, born Aberdeen Scotland, bachelor, Sailor, Presbyterian, son of James Chalmers & Elsie Urquhart;
Elizabeth Tassie, 25, residence Owen Sound, born Marmora Hastings County, spinster, Presbyterian, daughter of James Tassie & Anne Inkster
The witnesses were Joseph Charlton & [Elizabeth's sister] Isabella Tassie both of Owen Sound.1 
(Informant) DeathRobert Chalmers registered the death of his wife Elizabeth on 18 August 1889, a week after the birth of their first child. The baby, Robert James, died September 5th.2 
1891 CensusRobert Chalmers appeared on the 1891 Census of Owen Sound, Grey County, Ontario. Robert was 30, marital status not recorded, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, Presbyterian, worked as an Engineer, and was a Lodger.3 
Note.Robert married again, on 30 Dec 1896, in Owen Sound. His second wife was Margaret Brisbane Oatt, daughter of James C Oatt and Catharine McNaught. They had a stillborn son 16 August 1897, then Margaret died three days later.
In January 1907, Robert was living in Simcoe County where he married Mattie Smith, a 34 year old spinster. They had a son, James, in 1908 and the family was still living there in 1911.4
