Life Events

BaptismCecilia Fidlar was baptized on 22 Jul 1792 in Stromness, Orkney.1 
MarriageShe married Nicol Taylor on 19 May 1816 in Stromness.
The parish register noted that Nicol Taylor was a merchant & Cecilia's surname was spelled Fiddler.1 
Research Note They are listed on the 1821 Census in Stromness with the following children:
1. John
2. Jannet
3. Eliza B.

The family had moved to Edinburgh by 1824 (listed in a directory there.) We have a letter written by Edward to his sister Cecelia and Nichol in 1841 at the same address in Edinburgh. According to family, their daughter Jannet died at sea while they were coming to Canada.

Nichol Taylor was a grocer in Belleville, Ontario according to a 1851 Directory. He died in Stirling in 1855.2 
(Witness) Marriage Nicol and Celia Taylor witnessed the marriage of William B Burnham to their daughter Eliza on 6 May 1847 in Victoria District, Ontario.3 
(Other) 1861 CensusCecelia Taylor appeared on the 1861 Census of Colborne, Northumberland County, Canada West, with her daughter and son-in-law Eliza and Charles R Ford in their two-story brick house. Cecelia was single, age 68 next birthday, born in Scotland, and religion F.C. Scotland.4 
Research Note Colborne is in Cramahe Township.
