| Research Note | Arguably the correct family in Tynemouth; there is no refuting evidence so far other than James was a sailor in Stromness, then a grocer in Tynemouth. Their daughter Elizabeth married in Tynemouth in 1839 with witness Sarah Harvey which could be her sister or her mother. |
| 1841 Census | James and Sarah Harvey appeared on the 1841 Census of Tynemouth, Northumberland, at Tyne Street. James was 50, a grocer, and born in Scotland. Sarah was 45 and born in Scotland. With them were [son] William Harvey (15, born in the county of Northumberland) and [dtr] Sarah (25, Scotland) & Margery (9 months) Moat. Note that the 1841 census records ages rounded down to the nearest 5 years, does not record relationships, and only indicates whether or not the person was born in the county.3 |
| 1851 Census | Sarah Harvey and her daughter Sarah Mowat, both widows, appeared on the 1851 Census of North Shields, Tynemouth, Northumberland, at 5 Middle Street. Sarah Harvey was 61, a shopkeeper, and was born in Orkney, Scotland. Sarah Mowat was 36, an assistant to her mother, and born in North Shields. The Mowat children were Margery (10, scholar) and John H (8, scholar). Three families lived at this address.2 |
