1871 CensusPeter and Marey [sic] Gilchrist appeared on the 1871 Census of Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. They were both born in Ontario, of Scotch origin, and Presbyterian. Peter was 40 and Mary 28. Their children, born in Ontario, were Marey (2) and Neil (6 months.)4 
(Informant) DeathPeter Gilchrist registered the death of his 4-year old son Neil in 1874.5,6 
1881 CensusPeter and Mary appeared on the 1881 Census of Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. Peter was 52, born in Scotland, and a farmer. Mary was 38 and born in Scotland. Their children were Mary (12), Angus (9), Esibella (7), Flora (5), and Neil (2). The oldest 3 attended school.7 
1891 CensusPeter and Mary appeared on the 1891 Census of Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. The Gilchrist family lived in a 2 story wood house with 10 rooms. Peter was 60, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, religion Canada Presbyterian, and was a Farmer. Mary was 47, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, and her religion was Canada Presbyterian. Their children were Angus (19), Bell (17), Flora (15), Neil (12), William (9), James (5), and Peter (2.)8 
1901 CensusPeter and Mary appeared on the 1901 Census of Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. Peter was born in 1828 in Scotland, immigrated in 1854, and was a farmer working on his own account. Mary was 56, born in August 1844 in Scotland, and immigrated in 1862. Their children were Isabella (26), Flora (24), Neil W (22), William A (19), James J (15), and Peter A (12). The family was Presbyterian, spoke Gaelic, and could read, write, and speak English. They lived on the 6th Concession in a 4 room wood house on 50 acres, with 2 outbuildings.3 
DeathPeter died on 19 Mar 1907 in Bruce Township.
Information from death certificate: age 80, residence Lot 24 Con 2, Farmer, married, born Islay Scotland, Presbyterian, registered by doctor 19 Mar 1907.9 
BurialHe was buried in Tiverton Cemetery, Bruce County, Ontario.10
