Agnes (47, born March 1864) was listed as the head of the household, followed by her sisters Isabella (50, Sept 1861) and Christina (49?, Dec? 1862). Recorded as lodgers were their brother James (3-, Aug 1880 [sic]) and his wife Mary (28, Nov 1882). All were born in Ontario and Presbyterian. The sisters were retired, James was a nursesen--- , and Mary was a teacher. There were also four other lodgers (three nurses and a stenographer.)7 
1911 CensusJ K and Mary B Smith appeared on the 1911 Census of Winnipeg, Manitoba, at 198 Langside. J K was 43, born in July 1867 in Ontario, of Scotch origin, occupation Traveller, earning $1500. Mary B was 34, born in July 1876 in Ontario, Scotch origin. With them were Mary's unmarried sister Annie Burns (32, nurse), as well as two roomers.8 
1916 CensusJames K and Mary Burns Smith appeared on the 1916 Census of Winnipeg, Manitoba, at 767 Winnipeg Avenue. They had 3 children, Mary Burns (4), Kathleen McKinnon (3), and James Donald (1). James was 49, born in Ontario, occupation Traveller for a Grain Company. Mary was 39, born in Ontario Also in the household were James' sisters Isabel (56, trained nurse, retired), Christena (54), and Agnes (52) as well as one lodger. Everyone was Presbyterian.9 
1921 CensusJames and Mary appeared on the 1921 Census of Winnipeg, Manitoba, at 767 Winnipeg Avenue. They owned their 7 room brick veneer home. James was 53, born in Ontario, parents born in Ireland, occupation Grain Elevator Inspector, earning $2000 the previous year. Mary was 44, born in Ontario, father born in Scotland, mother in Ontario. Their children were Donald (6), Mary (9), and Kathleen (8). Also in the household were James' unmarried sisters Agnes (57) and Christena (59). The family was Presbyterian.5

James Smith, Formerly
With Flour Mill, Dies

James Smith, 78, of 767 Winnipeg avenue, former assistant superintendent of Purity Flour Mills, who retired in 1942, died Sunday, in Grace hospital. Born in Ontario, Mr Smith had resided in Winnipeg for 51(?) years. Prior to his position with the Purity Flour Mills, he was a traveller for the Northern Elevator company for ten years. Mr Smith had been an elder in St Paul's United church, and was a member of the North West Commercial Travellers association. He is survived by his widow Mary; one son and two daughters. The funeral service was held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Clark-Leatherdale funeral chapel with burial in Brookside cemetery.10

MRS. MARY JANE SMITH, 84, formerly of 271 Morley Avenue, Suite 11, died Sunday in Winnipeg General Hospital. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society of St Paul's United Church. She was the widow of James K Smith. Surviving are one son, James D; two daughters, Mrs K Priestly and Mrs J Campbell; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Ada Thompson and Mrs Beatrice Hall and one brother, Alex Burns. Funeral service will be at 3:15 pm Wednesday in Mordue Brothers Funeral Home, Rev H Sangwine officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.11
