Obituary | Mrs. J.J. Griffith 1901-1979 Estherville – Mrs. J.J. (Florence) Griffith, 78, Estherville, died early Sunday [June 24, 1979] at Holy Family Hospital. Services for Mrs. Griffith will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Estherville Christian Church with the Rev. James Harmon officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and at the church prior to services. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Graves, she was born March 13, 1901, in rural Jackson, Minn. She received her education in Jackson schools and was married to J.J. Griffith on Feb. 14, 1920, at Estherville. She spent her entire married life in the Estherville area. She was a member of the Estherville Christian Church, VFW Auxiliary and Degree of Honor. Mrs. Griffith is survived by her husband, J.J. Griffith, Estherville; one son, Keith L. Griffith, Pocahontas, Ark; one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Phyllis) Bendixen, Clear Lake, Wisc; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hinkley, Pine City, Minn; and one brother, Clarence Graves, Phoenix, Ariz. Obituary | Her husband's obituary was published on 10 Jan 1983 in the Estherville Daily News. Services for Jesse J. Griffith, 85, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Estherville with Dr. James Harmon officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Friday morning, Jan. 7, at Holy Family Hospital. Henry and Olson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Griffith was born March 19, 1897 at Hartley, the son of Albert and Lena (Kahl) Griffith. He attended Hartley School. At the age of 16 he moved to Estherville with his parents. On Feb. 14, 1920 he was united in marriage to Florence Graves at Estherville. Griffith was employed as an engineer and fireman for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad and retired in 1962. He was an avid horseman and bred and raised standard breed trotters and pacers, which he trained and races. He served in the United States Army in World War One. Griffith was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include one son Keith Griffith, Pocahontas, Ark; one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Phyllis) Bendixen, Clear Lake, Wis; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Art Griffith, Clayton, Wis; one sister, Mrs. Roy Kelley, Austin, Minn.
