Details from the register: William Mare & Mary Mortimore, widow, both of the parish, were married by banns. They both signed with an X and the witnesses, who signed their names, were [Mary's brother and sister-in-law] William Stocker and Susanna Stocker.5 
1841 CensusWilliam and Mary Mare appeared on the 1841 Census of Broadclyst, Devon They lived in the Village. William was 35 and a Mason. Mary was 36. The children, all surnamed Mare, were Harriett (8), George (7), Jane (5), Thomas (2), and Anne (1). Also with them was a Mason's labourer, William Mortimore, 17. All were born in Devon. Note that the 1841 census records ages rounded down to the nearest 5 years, does not record relationships, and only indicates whether or not the person was born in the county.6 
DeathMary died in 1843.7
 
BurialShe was buried on 30 Jun 1843 in Broadclyst. She was 37 years old and of Broadclyst.7 
Research Note There is a burial in 1851 for William Mare, age 46, of the Town of Broadclyst.
