1861 CensusMatthew and Maria Wright appeared on the 1861 Census of Lambeth, Surrey, at 2 Hamilton Street, enumerated 7 Apr 1861. Matthew was 31, a coalheaver, and was born in Lambeth. Maria was 29 and born in Lambeth. They lived with Matthew's widowed mother Jane. Their children were Maria (8), Matthew (6), Clara (5), and Jane (1.)3 
1871 CensusMatthew and Maria Wright appeared on the 1871 Census of Lambeth, Surrey, at No 7 Portland Street. Matthew was 43, a Carman, and born in Lambeth. Maria was 40, a Laundress and born in Lambeth. Their children were Jane (11), Clara (9) [sic-she was 15], and Matthew (7) [sic-he was 16]. They also had one lodger living with them.4 
1881 CensusMaria appeared on the 1881 Census of Lambeth, London, at 23 Heman Street. There were two small families at this address. Maria was a widow, age 50, a Laundress, and born in London. Her daughters were Georgiana (17, general servant) and Mary A (14, general servant.)5
