(with Parents) 1880 CensusRichard H [sic] appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Two Mile House Pct, Jefferson County, Kentucky, with his parents. He was 8 years old, born in Kentucky, and did not attend school.2 
MilitaryHe was educated at the Virginia Military Institute, according to the Mason Family Genealogy website. However, his name was listed as an alternate in the 1890-91 Military Academy Register for West Point.5,4

1900 CensusHenry C Bonnycastle appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Port of Bongao, Island of Bongao, enumerated 30 Jun 1900. The census for Company "C" of the 23rd Infantry Regiment was enumerated by 1st Lieutenant Henry C Bonnycastle, Adjutant. [His handwriting was excellent!]
His own particulars stated that he was a 1st Lieutenant, permanent address Jefferson County, Kentucky, born in June 1872 in Kentucky, age 27, single, father born in Virginia, mother in Kentucky.3 
Newspaper Published 19 Jul 1904. The following assignments to regiments of officers recently promoted have been announced: H.C. Bonnycastle, from first lieutenant Twenty-first Infantry to Captain Sixth Infantry, Company G.6 
Item On 20 May 1905 Henry Churchill Bonnycastle was on a list of Military Passengers Returning from Service in the Philippines - "transport Logan has arrived at San Francisco, Cal from Manila, Philippine Islands, with the First & Second Squadrons, Thirteenth Cavalry (364 enlisted men)....also on board: Capt. Bonnycastle, Sixth.7

1910 CensusCaptain Henry C and Marie Kennedy Bonnycastle appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Mindanao, Philippine Islands, at Camp Keithley with the 6th U.S. Infantry, enumerated 15 Apr 1910. Henry was 37, born in Kentucky, father born in Virginia, mother in Kentucky, and he rented his home. Marie was 28, born in Kentucky, father born in Alabama, mother in Kentucky, and she was the mother of two children. Henry and Marie had been married 4 years. Their children Jane and Harriet were listed as living with them, along with a servant Minnie Morgan (30, married, mulatto, born Michigan.)8 
Newspaper Published 11 Jan 1917. Capt Henry C Bonnycastle, quartermaster corps, is relieved from further duty in the Southern department, and upon the expiration of his present leave of absence will proceed to Fort H.G. Wright, N.Y. and report to the coast defenses of Long Island Sound, for duty as quartermaster.11

Newspaper Published 30 Aug 1917. Army Orders - The following officers of the national army will proceed to Camp Dodge, Des Moines, Iowa [includes] Lieut Col Henry C Bonnycastle, infantry, as division quartermaster.13 
1920 CensusHenry C and Marie K Bonnycastle appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Washington, District of Columbia, at 1659 Harvard Terrace, enumerated 20 Jan 1920. Henry owned his home free. He was 47, born in Kentucky, and was an officer in the U.S. Army. Marie was 37 and born in Kentucky. Their children Jane, Harriet and Barbara were living with them.14 
Newspaper Published 9 Jan 1923. Col & Mrs Henry C Bonnycastle attended party given by Brig. Gen and Mrs. Farnsworth preceding the second Army dance. Greens & shaded electric lights were used in the ballroom.15

Society Events - "Associates Honor Col Bonnycastle"
To show their esteem for Col. Harry C. Bonnycastle, depot quartermaster here, the personnel in the office of the quartermaster supply depot invited Mrs. Bonnycastle to the office Tuesday, and in the presence of Col. Bonnycastle and their two daughters, presented her a handsome silver service. War Department orders issued this week transferred Col. Bonnycastle to Philadelphia as assistant in the commanding officer of the quartermaster intermediate depot there. His home is at 1659 Harvard Street northwest.16
 
1930 CensusHenry and Marie Bonnycastle appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Brookline, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, at 12 Warwick Road, enumerated 17 Apr 1930. They rented their home for $127.50 a month [that was a typical rent for the area] and owned a radio. Henry was 57, first married at 32, born in Kentucky, and was a Colonel in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the World War. Marie was 48, first married at 24, and was born in Kentucky. Their daughter Barbara was living with them, as well as one house servant.17 
Passenger List On 31 Aug 1931, Mrs H.C. and Barbara Bonnycastle were on the Yarmouth from Yarmouth Nova Scotia to Boston. On a different page was Mr H Bonnycastle.18 
DeathHenry died on 30 Dec 1933.19

Bonnycastle – On Saturday, December 30, 1933, Col Henry C. Bonnycastle, C.S.A., retired. Services at Fort Myer Chapel on Tuesday, January 2, 1934, at 12 o’clock noon. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.19
 
BurialHe was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.19
