May was 29, born in Kentucky with parents born in Germany. Arthur and May had been married 3 years, and May was the mother of one child. Their son Arthur Chichester was with them, as well as Arthur's sister-in-law Josephine Wieland and a cook Hellen Porter (mulatto, 20, divorced, no children).7
