The death is announced of Mr. Joshua Fernee, once a well known resident of Echunga. He was born at Highgate, Milddlesex, on August 30,1840 and after having been at sea for a number of years came to South Australia, where he had resided for about half a century. He assisted in the erection of the telegraph line to the Northern Territory, and 28 years ago went to reside at Echunga as proprietor of the well known Hagen Arms Hotel. On retiring from business he went to Western Australia, where he was successful in speculations. He returned to South Australia and took up farming at Blumberg, after which he resided at Hahndorf, and then at Port Pirie. A few weeks ago the deceased went to his son at Beri(sic) (River Murray), became ill and was sent to the Loxton Hospital, where he died. Mrs Fernee predeceased him by 20 years. Mrs G.Hill, of Solomon town, Port Pirie, is a sister of the late Mr. Fernee and he left fours sons- Messrs E. Fernee, Pine Creek; J. Fernee, Mount Gambier, and James and G. Fernee, Beri(sic) - and one daughter, Mrs Felstead, Melbourne.6
