The Late Thomas Graham

The late Thos Graham, of Rockland, whose sad and sudden demise we recorded last week, was an Oddfellow, a member of Stella Lodge, and about a dozen members from Carleton Place attended the funeral at Ottawa on Thursday to Beechwood Cemetery. Mr Graham was also a member of the Oddfellows' Relief Association, in which he carried $1,000 insurance. The fuller particulars obained are to the effect that Mr Graham had been ailing for some weeks, but like all Scotchmen he refused to give up until he was obliged, and as a consequence the disease obtained a very strong hold upon his constitution before medical aid was obtained. Mr Graham was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, where his father owned and operated a woollen factory, and when quite young came to this country with his parents, the family settling at New Edinburgh, where the mother still resides. The father died several years ago. Thomas was only 31 years of age, but on account of his early training was mature beyond his years, and was an honored and trusted servant at all times, one whose integrity was indisputeable and who held honor most dear. During his brief married life he was an ideal husband and much devoted to the little child who brightened the home, and his sudden death has called forth more than the usual sympathy for those bereaved. Mrs Graham and the baby arrived in Carleton Place on Saturday, and will remain with Mr Sibbitt.8

LATE T. GRAHAM -- Several members of Carleton and Rockliffe lodges met at the Central depot this morning to attend the funeral of the late Bro. Thos. Graham, of Stella lodge, Carleton Place. The body came in on the Ottawa and Boston train and was placed in the vault at Beechwood. Mr Graham, who was a brother of Graham Bros., florists, of Sparks street, had been, since the retirement of Mr Angus McLean, head bookkeeper in Mr W C Edwards' office at Rockland. Constant attention to duty and office confinement had for some time past been telling on his health. Finally he was confined to his bed with an attack of typhoid fever, to which he succumbed. Mr Graham had always been much respected by his employers and fellow employees, and his demise will be regretted by many.9
