Elizabeth was 38 and born in Kilmadock. With them were their children Elizabeth (10), Margaret (8), Helen (5), Agnes (3), and Mary G (1) as well as one female farm servant. The first two were surnamed McFarlane and the last three were King.5 
1881 CensusJames and Eliza appeared on the 1881 Census of Dunblane, Perthshire, at Newton Farm. James was 44, a farmer of 40 acres arable, and born in Ardoch. Eliza was 49, born in Kilmadock. Their children were Helen (15), Agnes (13), Mary G (11, scholar), and William (8, scholar).2 
1901 CensusJames and Elizabeth appeared on the 1901 Census of Dunblane, Perthshire, at Newton Farm. James was a farmer, age 64, born in Ardoch. Elizabeth was 68, birthplace Kilmadock. At home were their children Helen (35), Agnes (33), Mary G (31), and William (28).6 
DeathJames died on 22 Feb 1919 in Newton Farm, Dunblane, Perthshire.1
 
BurialHe was buried on 26 Feb 1919 in Dunblane Cathedral Churchyard, Dunblane, Perthshire.1
