Hockey Great Of Early Years Dead

Montreal, Sept 25 -- Cavie Percy Howard, who died in Vancouver Monday was a member of Montreal Victorias for many years, playing with Frank Patrick and other hockey greats back in 1904.

He was also a noted canoeist. He teamed with Fred Shackle of Lachine to lift four world championships at the Pan-American Exposition in 1900. The pair were entered in six events representing the old Lachine Boating and Canoe Club.

Born and bred in Lachine, Howard was one of the original members of the Lachine Skating and Curling Club.3

C.P. Howard, Former Hockey Star, Passes

Vancouver, Sept. 24 -- (C.P.) -- Funeral services will be held here tomorrow for Cavie Percy Howard, 59, one of Canada's top-ranking amateur hockey players two decades ago when he was known as "the little iron man of hockey". He died in a Vancouver hospital Monday.

Howard, who played for many years with the Montreal Victorias, retired recently as manager of the Bank of Montreal in Lachine, Que. He had moved here to make his home only a week ago.

A brother, F Howard, lives in Ottawa.5
 
BurialHe was buried on 23 Oct 1940. The burial register noted that he had resided at Sylvia Court, Beach Avenue at Gilford in the city of Vancouver and was the husband of Margaret Lennox McLaurin. He was the son of Dr James Herbert Howard and Matilda Amelia Ogilvie of Lachine. He died in the Vancouver General Hospital on 23rd of September, aged 58, and his body was cremated. The ashes were interred in the Mount Royal Cemetery in the City of Montreal and the burial services was conducted by J M McQueen, minister of St Andrew Presbyterian Church in Lachine, Quebec.6
