Note.Harold and Mabel had twin boys, Iven and Irvin, in June 1914. They both contracted ptomaine poisoning from canned milk left open and they died on October 18th and 29th of that year.5 
(Widowed) DeathHarold's death on 29 Mar 1919 from pneumonia and influenza left Mabel a widow.6 
ObituaryHer husband's obituary was published on 4 Apr 1919 in the Dundee Reporter.
     Harold Linford Hess, son of James A and Carrie Boilean Hess, was born in Dundee township January 19th 1898 and passed away last Saturday morning, March 29th, 1919, at his farm home near this village. He attended the public schools of this village and was a quiet, unassuming, industrious boy and young man. On August 25th, 1913, he was united in marriage to Miss Mabel Suydam of Adrian, and they began their new home life together on the farm home, which was soon to be interrupted by the grim messenger of death. June 5, 1914, twin boys, Irwin and Ivan, were born to this union, but both died in infancy. The deceased leaves to mourn their loss, a wife, a father, and other relatives and many friends.
     The funeral was held from the late home Monday and the services were conducted by Rev. W.J. Prestidge. Interment was made in the Maple Grove cemetery.7

With them was their daughter Virginia, age 1, and Mable's widowed mother Anna. They owned their home and had a radio.9 
DeathMabel died after 1930.
