Stephen Quinn was a Catholic Irish immigrant. He married Bridget Dempsey in 1849 in New Jersey where they had five known children. In the late 1850s they migrated to Adrian in Lenawee County, Michigan where two more children were born - 7 in 10 years! Stephen was a laborer in blacksmithing. Note: his reported age varied widely in each record. His birth year is calculated from his stated age at marriage, but that might be wrong.

BirthStephen Quinn was born circa 1814 in Ireland.2

Immigration There are a handful of Stephen Quinns arriving in New York in the 1840s. One possible match is a passenger list for the Triton arriving in New York 29 June 1848 from Dublin. In steerage it lists a Stephen Quinn, age 20, along with James Quinn, age 22. Further up the same page are a Quinn family consisting of Mrs Quinn (40), Mary (18), Bridget (6), Patrick (13) and Peter (7). Everyone on the list was noted to be a laborer from Ireland going to the United States. Between 1845 and 1850, 500,000 Irish immigrated to the U.S.3
