Philip Kreckel was born in Nassau, Germany about 1820. He is next found in 1850 in Cleveland with his wife Marguerite. There they had seven known children - 2 sons and 5 daughters. Philip was by trade a stone cutter but he also farmed. He died of consumption at the age of 52.

Possibly RelatedPhilip Kreckel and Louis Kreckel were possibly father and son. They were near one another in the 1850 census. Louis was 51 and Philip was 29. Also nearby was Charles, 31.

1850 CensusPhillip and Margaret Cragon [sic] appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, enumerated 6 Aug 1850. Philip was 29, a stone cutter owning real estate valued at $250, and was born in Germany. Margaret was 20 and born in Germany. With them was one year old Louis, born in Ohio.3 
1860 CensusPhilip and Margaret Cragle [sic] appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Bedford Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, enumerated 12 Jun 1860. Philip was 39, a farmer owning land valued at $1500 and personal goods worth $66, and was born in Nassau Germany. Margaret was 30 and born in Rabin [?] Germany. With them were L--- (male, 11), Catherine (6), and Mina (2). Johanna (8) was with the neighboring family. The children were all born in Cleveland.2 
1870 CensusPhilip and Margrett Crager [sic] appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Cleveland, enumerated 6 Jul 1870. Philip was 49, a Stone Cutter owning real estate worth $6000 [this is quite high], born in Nassau, parents foreign born, and was a U.S. citizen. Margrett was 40, keeping house, and born in Bavaria. With them were Louis (21, carpenter), Johanna (18), Catherine (16, worked hair dressing), Minnie (12), Julius (10), Mary (5), and Emma (2). All the children were born in Ohio. Minnie and Julius attended school.4 
DeathPhilip died on 7 Dec 1872 in Cleveland.
The record stated that he was married, age 52, a stone cutter, born in Germany, last residence Cleveland. He died of consumption.5 
BurialHe was buried on 9 Dec 1872 in Woodland Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio. Information from the burial register: Phillip Kreckel, 60 Beach St, age 52, white, male, native of Germany, cause of death consumption, buried in section 10, lot 62, NW1/4. Remarks: Vault 21, 1/7/1873.6,7 
Research Note There was a large Kreckel family with a son Philip that arrived in New York in 1845. However, it appears that they settled in Elk County, Pennsylvania.
