1901 CensusEdward and Ellen appeared on the 1901 Census of Birmingham, Warwickshire, at the Fairway Inn, Ladywood Road. Edward was 37, a publican and employer working at home, and was born in Cheriton Fitzpaine. Ellen was 37 and born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Their children were Leonard (13, born Birmingham), and Ernest (11, born Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire). They had two visitors and a servant (age 18, barman.)5 
Research Note There is an entry in the death index for an Ellen Oliver, age 39, in 1903 in Birmingham. 
MarriageEdward Oliver married May Maud Moore in 1910.6,7
 
1911 CensusEdward and May Maud Oliver appeared on the 1911 Census of Exeter, Devon, at 92 Queen Street. They were proprietors of the Queens Hotel, recorded as a dwelling with 22 rooms. At the time of the census there were 4 visitors, a barmaid, boots boy, kitchen maid, waitress, pantry maid, cook, hotel porter and a housemaid.
Edward was 47 and born in Cheriton Fitzpaine. May Maud was 30, born in Exeter, had been married less than a year and had no children.6
