Ira was 26, born in Illinois, and was a Machinest for a machine company. Gladys was 16 and born in Michigan. They were married within the year, their monthly rent was $35, and they did not own a radio. Living with them was Ira's father and four lodgers. At the same address were his sister and her family.5 |
1940 Census | Ira and Gladys appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Webster Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan, at Northfield Church Road. They rented their home for $10 [I think, the writing is difficult to read]. Ira was 36, had an 8th grade education, was born in Illinois, and worked full time as a machine operator for $1100. [That was a good amount compared to others living nearby]. Gladys was 26, had two years of high school, and was born in Michigan. Their children were Shirley (9), Paul (6), Robert (3), and Michael (1). With them were Ira's father Charles (73) and Gladys' brother Harry Durnell. They lived in the same place, but not the same house, in 1935.6 |
