Charles was the youngest child of Levi and Judah Presswood. Unlike earlier generations, he did attend school. He was a coal miner (the main industry of Perry County) with a 6th grade education and married Maggie Robinson from neighboring Randolph County. They had one son together and Maggie married again in 1896. Charles married his cousin Lydia Ann Keen in 1891. Lydia died in 1922 and Charles in 1949.
Charles and Lydia had seven children.

Research Note 1900 census gives birthdate as Aug 1867; in 1870 he is age 4; Wilma's notes have a birthdate of 3 Aug 1868; age 24 at marriage in 1891, therefore born in 1866/67.

(with Mother) 1880 CensusChas H Presswood appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Pinckneyville with his mother, J C Presswood. He was 12, attended school, was born in Illinois, father born in Indiana, and mother born inTennessee.5
MarriageHe married Maggie Elizabeth Robinson on 16 Apr 1888 in Pinckneyville.

1900 CensusCharles and Lydia A Presswood appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Cutler Precinct, Perry County, Illinois, enumerated 12 Jun 1900. Charles was born in Aug 1867 in Illinois. His father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Tennessee. Charles was 32, a Coal Miner (out of work 4 months that year), and able to read and write. Lydia A was born in Aug 1875 in Illinois, parents born in Illinois, age 24, and was the mother of four children, 2 of whom were still living. They had been married 9 years and rented their home. At home were Nellie E (5) and Lola A (7), as well as one boarder, a coal miner.6

1910 CensusCharles and Lydia appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of East Eldorado Township, Saline County, Illinois, enumerated 30 Apr 1910. Charles was 42, in a second marriage, born in Illinois, father born in Pennsylvania, mother in Tennessee. He was a coal miner, out of work 15 weeks in the year, and rented their home.
Lydia was 34, first marriage, had 7 children, 3 still living. She was born in Illinois, parents born in Illinois.
They had been married 18 years. With them were their children Nellie (15) and Ira (6), along with daughter Lola (17) and her husband Emery Rigdon (37, coal miner).7
1920 CensusCharles H and Lydia A appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Percy, Randolph County, Illinois, enumerated 23 Jan 1920. Charles H was 52, born in Illinois, father born in Pennsylvania, mother born in Illinois. He was a miner working for a coal company and rented his house. Lydia A was 45 and born in Illinois. Their son Ira (16, a miner) was with them.8
(Widowed) DeathHis wife Lydia died on 1 Jan 1922.9  
1930 CensusCharles Hager Presswood appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan, at 307 South 4th Avenue. Charles H was 63, widowed, first married at 24, born in Illinois, parents born in Illinois, worked as a laborer in a Steel plant, currently employed, and not a veteran. He lived with his son Ira and wife. At the same address were his daughter Nellie and family, another couple (the Hauslemans), and four boarders.10
1940 CensusCharles Presswood appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Webster Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan. He was living with his son Ira and family. Charles was married [sic], age 73, had a 6th grade education, was born in Illinois, and was not employed. He also lived in Webster in 1935.11 
DeathCharles died on 7 May 1949.1
