Their children at home were Elsie I (17), Hilton L (13), and Audry A (10). Hilton and Audry attended school.7 
1940 CensusEdward and Lula Keene appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Cutler, Perry County, Illinois, at North Street. There were no house numbers but the Keens did own their home worth $300 (the values on their street were from $200 - $1000). Edward was 58, had a 3rd grade education, and was born in Illinois. He earned $310 in 28 weeks worked the previous year. Lula was 53 and had a 5th grade education. The information was given by their daughter Audrey Farthing (21, married to Roy).8
