(Other) 1860 CensusJohn Todd appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Township 5 Range 3 West, Perry County, Illinois, in the household of his future mother-in-law Catherine Presswood. He was a farm laborer, age 25, and born in England.2
MarriageJohn Todd married Malinda Presswood, daughter of Josiah Presswood and Catherine (-?-), on 12 Jun 1860 in Perry County, Illinois.1
 
MilitaryJohn Todd joined the 12th Illinois US Infantry on 21 Apr 1861 in Duquoin. He was with Company G. John was a private, signed up by C Brookings for a period of 3 months. He mustered in May 2nd at Springfield, Illinois and mustered out August 1st, 1861. The only personal characteristic on this report was age 21. There was a remark, "due State of Illinois 1 pair socks."3 
MilitaryJohn Todd joined the 12th Illinois US Infantry on 1 Aug 1861. He was with Company G. John was a private, signed up for a period of 3 years. There was no date recorded for mustering in and he deserted 6 August 1861 at Cairo, Illinois.

Personal characteristics noted were: residence Pinckneyville, Perry County, age 25, height 5' 6", light hair, gray eyes, light complexion, married, mechanic, nativity England.3 
MilitaryJohn Todd joined the 2nd Illinois US Light Artillery on 14 Aug 1861. He was with Company D. John was a private and this report did not include when mustered in and out, just that he was "transferred from Campbell Battery discharged 24 Sep 1864 Term Expired".

Personal characteristics noted were: residence Pinckneyville, Perry County, age 27, height 5' 6 1/2", light hair, gray eyes, light complexion, married, occupation mechanic, nativity England.3 
MarriageHe married Catherine Presswood, daughter of Josiah Presswood and Catherine (-?-), on 30 Oct 1866 in Perry County, Illinois.4
 
(Other) 1880 CensusJohn Todd appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Township 5 Range 3, Pinckneyville, Perry County, Illinois. He was 44, widowed, a carpenter, and born in England. His children were Wm J (18), Mary A (14), Adam (12), Jenette (7), and Jessie (5). All attended school. Also there was his mother in law Catherine Presswood.5
Note.In 1891, John married Mrs Elizabeth Whitley.6 
DeathJohn died on 11 Jun 1917 in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois.
