Research Note There is a marriage for James Kinross and Elizabeth McLaren in Muthill in 1816, and baptisms of children in 1827 & 1829. Since he was age 43 when he married Janet Comrie, it is quite possibly the same James Kinross marrying twice.3 
MarriageHe married Janet Comrie, daughter of John Comrie and Mary McInnes, on 12 Jun 1832.4
 
1841 CensusJames and Janet Kinross appeared on the 1841 Census of Muthill, Perthshire, at Shielhill. James was 45, a Farmer, and was born in Perthshire. Janet was 35 and born in Perthshire. [Ages were rounded down in the 1841 census]. The children in the household were John (7), Mary (5), Helen (3), and Janet (1). They had two female servants. In a separate house at Shielhill were four male servants.5 
1851 CensusJas and Janet appeared on the 1851 Census of Muthill, Perthshire, at Shielhill. James was 62, a Farmer of 120 acres employing 4 labourers, and born in Muthill. Janet was 40 and born in Monivaird [sic]. Their children were Mary (15), Helen (13), and James (9). Also in the household were one house servant, four farm servants, and two women and three children listed as lodgers and beggars. Their daughter Janet was with James' sister Margaret at Blackhill.6 
(Inventory) ProbateJames Kinross gave up the inventory of the estate of his sister Margaret Kinross on 15 Feb 1859. He was recorded as James Kinross, Farmer at Sheilhill.7 
1861 CensusJames and Janet appeared on the 1861 Census of Muthill, Perthshire, at Shielhill. James was 70, a Farmer of 120 acres, and born in Ardoch. Janet was 53 and born in Monzievaird. Their children at home were Janet (21) and James (19). There were also two domestic servants, an agricultural labourer, and a ploughman. The house was noted to have 6 rooms with windows.8 
DeathJames died on 1 Oct 1861 in Shielhill Farm, Muthill, Perthshire.
Details from certificate: James Kinross, farmer, married to Janet Comrie, died at 6h 30m PM, age 72, father John Kinross, farmer, dec'd; mother Helen Kinross maiden surname Dawson, dec'd. Died of dileated bladder of 3 years, certified by Alexr Cochran MD. The informant was son James Kinross, present who registered the death on October 11th.9 
ProbateHis estate was proved on 11 Dec 1861 in Dunblane, Perthshire. But he did not leave a will. Son James was the executor dative and submitted an inventory showing the value of the estate as £463.15.10.10
