MarriageJohn McLaurin married Mabel Constance Bennett, daughter of John Samuel Bennett and Mary Jane Cartmell, on 21 Jun 1910 in Lachine, Quebec.
The church register noted that John was of the city of Lachine, Lumber Merchant, bachelor, of major age. Mabel Constance was of Lachine, spinster, of major age. They were married in St Paul Anglican Church, Lachine, by R Hewton, Rector, and the witnesses were Geoffrey Bennett and Eva G Ritchie.5,6

1911 CensusJohn and Mabel C McLaurin appeared on the 1911 Census of Papineauville, Quebec. John was 26, born in Nov 1884 in Quebec, Presbyterian, employed at the mica works, for 52 weeks at 60 hr/wk for $648, and spoke both French and English. Mabel was 28, born in October 1882 in England, immigrated in 1899, Anglican, and only spoke English. They had two children, Muriel C and John K, both born in October 1910 in Quebec.7 
1921 CensusJohn and Mabel appeared on the 1921 Census of East Templeton, Quebec. They owned their home. John could speak French and English but the rest of the family was English only. Their religion was Presbyterian.
John was 35, born in Quebec, father born in Quebec, mother in Scotland, and was a Farmer working on his own account. Mable was 39, born in England as were her parents, and immigrated in 1896.
Their children were John Kenneth (11), Donald Graham (6), Marjorie (3), and Douglas (1).8

John McLaurin, a highly respected resident of the Capital passed away at his home, 11 Ralph street, yesterday after a brief illness. He was in his 56th year.

Born in East Templeton, Que, a son of the late Mr and Mrs Lewis K McLaurin, he received his secondary education in Ottawa. In 1909 he married the former Mabel C Bennett of Lachine, Que. Mr McLaurin was associated with the O'Brien and Fowler Mica Manufacturing Company for many years. Later he farmed in East Templeton where he was well known, especially for his activities in the United church. Because of ill-health he was forced to retire three years ago and moved to Ottawa. He retained an interest in sports to the end, however, and continued his membership of the Grand Lake Fish and Game Club, an interest for some years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Kenneth, Donald and Douglas, all of Ottawa; one daughter, Marjorie, also of Ottawa; a brother, T G McLaurin of Montreal; a sister Mrs C P Howard of Westmount, and four grandchildren.

The body is resting at the funeral parlors of Hulse and Playfair Ltd., 315 McLeod street, where service will be conducted by the Rev T W Bird of East Templeton on Saturday at 2.30 pm DST Interment will be in East Templeton United cemetery.5
