[submitted by Colin Bendall, Stirling, Scotland, 2013]. A number of records were found for Sarah Gallagher in Ireland in a search of on-line records in November 2012. The most likely match was the baptism of Sarah on August 24th 1817 at St. Columb's Church of Ireland in (London)Derry. She was the daughter of Hugh Gallagher and Sarah Erskine. A search of all the available Irish vital event records between 1810 and 1820 showed four other baptisms in this period, all Roman Catholic and none of them particularly close to County Londonderry.

She was living in St. John's, Birkenhead, with her husband and four children in the 1861 Census. She was a 48 year-old Trap Maker born in Ireland.

In the 1871 Census her husband could not be found; she was aged 57 years.

In the 1881 Census she was listed as a 68-year old mother-in-law, so living with a daughter's family. The household consisted of John Lightford, a 28 year old born in South Shields, his wife Elizth born in Birkenhead in 1856, Sarah, and a niece of John's.
