They had a general servant and a farm servant in the household.8 |
Marriage | He married Emily Hull, daughter of John Hull and Mary Stafford, on 30 Sep 1891 in Kingsbury, Warwickshire. They were married after banns, with witnesses Isabella Kinross and John Hull. The marriage was the same day as Emily's sister Annie Hull.9 |

Emily was 30 and born in Kingsbury, Warwickshire. Their children were Cecil John (5) and James H (1). They had a mother's help (Emily's cousin Elizabeth Stafford, 31, born in Birmingham), along with a general servant and an ordinary agricultural labourer.11 |

Note. | The Kinrosses were in a group of about 40 families who left Liverpool together to settle on CPR farms in the Lougheed area. From Saint John, New Brunswick, they took an all immigrant train to the West, arriving at Sedgewick a week later on April 6th. They stayed in their coaches in Lougheed until they were able to go out to their farms. Wagons, horses, and harnesses were bought locally.14 |
Note. | Their 7-year old daughter Nancy (Isabella Annie) had to remain in England when health inspectors found a problem [likely ringworm, although some family stories say chickenpox] and she sailed in August, accompanied by the Frost family from Northumberland. The travellers landed in Quebec, took the Coronation train to Calgary, stayed at the CPR hotel, then took a train to Red Deer which took them as far as Sedgewick as there was no station in Lougheed yet. James & Emily met the train in the evening.14 |

(Heir) Will | James Stirling Kinross was named an heir in the will of John Kinross dated 4 Dec 1915. After the deaths of his parents, the debt of £200 loaned to James Stirling Kinross by his father, was to be extinguished. The interest was payable to his mother while she lives.15 |

His wife was staying with their daughter and son-in-law Dr George Kelman in nearby Lougheed. They owned their 6-room (large for the area) wood house. James was 56, born in Scotland, immigrated in 1911, Church of England, Grain Farmer working on own account. With him were his children Cecil (25, VC) and Annie (17), as well as one lodger (Dolores Kelman, 19). Dolores was his son-in-law's sister.17 |
