(Heir) Will | He was mentioned in the trust disposition and deed of settlement of his father Alexander Stirling dated 21 Aug 1823 in Dunblane. James, third son of the present marriage, was bequeathed the tack and possession and full stocking of Craighead. If James was to die before the end of the tack, it would pass to his immediate younger brother Peter. James was underage, so it was to be managed by his mother. James was also to receive the remainder of the household furniture and plenishing. The residue of the estate was to be divided among six children, including James and Peter, of the present marriage, with sons receiving double the share of daughters.2 |

Also there were John Reid (20, clerk, probably Mary's brother), 2 agricultural labourers, & 3 female servants. Gravestone | James erected a monument at Ardoch cemetery for his parents and his son. The transcription reads: 1883 erected by James Stirlng Netherton of Cambushinnie as a memento of loving regard and esteem for his parents Alexander Stirling and Margaret McLaren also for his son John Reid.12 |
