Both were born in Ontario and Presbyterian. Their children were James (6), Charles (3), Mary A (2), and Elizabeth (born in December). The family was enumerated next to Mary's brother George and his wife.5 
1891 CensusWalter and Mary appeared on the 1891 Census of Vaughan Township, York County, Ontario. Walter was 37, born in Ontario, parents born in Ireland, and was a farmer. Mary was 38, born in Ontario, as were her parents. The family was Presbyterian and could read & write. Their children were James (16), Charles (13), Mary (12), Elizabeth (9), Susan (6), Flora (4), Catherine (3), and Walter (2.)6 
1901 CensusWalter and Mary appeared on the 1901 Census of Vaughan Township, York County, Ontario. Walter was 48, born 25 Dec 1852 in Ontario, of Irish origin, Presbyterian, and a labourer. Mary was 48, born 1 April 1852 in Ontario, of English origin. Their children at home were Kate (14), Sarah (7), and Allen (4.)7 
1911 CensusWalter and Mary appeared on the 1911 Census of Vaughan Township, York County, Ontario, at Lot 20 Concession 4. Walter was 58, born in December 1852 in Ontario, Irish, Presbyterian, and was a labourer drawing milk. He worked 40 weeks in the previous year at 70 hours per week for $380. Mary was 56, born in April 1855 in Ontario, and was Scotch. Their son Allen was 14 and attended school.8 
1921 CensusWalter and Mary appeared on the 1921 Census of Vaughan Township, York County, Ontario. They rented their residence. Walter was 68, born in Ontario, parents born in Ireland, occupation shoemaker doing repairs on his own account. Mary was 68, born in Ontario, father born in England, mother in Scotland. They were Presbyterian.9
