THE LATE CHARLES BONNYCASTLE

The death occurred in Seymour West on Monday morning of Charles E. Bonnycastle, one of the most highly respected residents of this locality, after an illness lasting over several months.

The late Charles E. Bonnycastle was a son of the late Frank Bonnycastle and Mrs. Bonnycastle, and was born on the homestead, 58 years ago, where he spent his whole life. He was a man of sterling worth, honest, industrious, and possessed of a cheerful disposition, which won for him friends everywhere. He was considered one of the most prosperous farmers of the township, being widely known a breeder of purebred livestock. In religion he was an Anglican and was deeply interested in all its activities, having filled many offices in connection with Christ Church.

When a young man, deceased married Henrietta, youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Cassan, who with five children, two sons, Geoffrey, of Windsor, and Allan, of Peterborough, and three daughters, Helen, of the staff of Peterborough Normal School; Frances, a teacher at Fraserville, and Doris, who teaches near Colborne, survive. There also survive deceased’s mother, one brother, Dr. Gerald Bonnycastle, of Bowmanville, and three sisters, Mrs. Wallace (1) of Toronto; Mrs. Clark (2) of Westport, and Mrs. Hand (3), of Philadelphia.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon and the popularity of the deceased was evidenced by the large attendance. The cortege left the home at ?30 and proceeded to Christ Church, Campbellford, where service was conducted by Rev. N.C. Wallace. The pall-bearers were: J.P. Archer, Dr. G.A. Hay, D.A. Owen, J.W. Johnston, Alfred Cassan, and Ernest Cassan.

Floral tributes in abundance evidenced the esteem in which the deceased was held and the sympathy of friends for the family bereaved.

The remains were laid to rest in Christ Church cemetery.16
