Joseph Smith was 30, a Carpenter, and was born in Eltham, Kent. Mary was 29 and born in St Pancras. They had two children: Herbert (7, born Blackheath Kent) and Amy (1, Pancras.)5 
1881 CensusJoseph and Mary appeared on the 1881 Census of Chelsea, Middlesex, at 94 Kilburn Lane, Kensal, enumerated 3 Apr 1881. Joseph was 42, a Carpenter, and born in Eltham, Kent. Mary was 40 and born in London, Middlesex. Their children were Herbert (17, cowman), Amy (12), Beatrice (10), Rosina (7), Arthur (5), all scholars, and Ada (11 months). Also in the household was a lodger Mary Godart (married, 67, born London). [She was Mary's mother]6 
1891 CensusThe Smith family appeared on the 1891 Census of Chelsea, London, at 282 Kilburn Lane. They occupied 2 rooms and were one of four households at this address. Joseph was 51, worked as a Farm Labourer, and was born in Eltham Kent. Mary was 50 and born in London. Their children were Herbert (27, bricklayer's labourer), Rosina (16, general servant), Arthur (14, butcher), Ada (10, scholar), and Sidney (9, scholar.)7 
DeathJoseph died between 1891 and 1901.8
