Passenger ListJ W, age 21, and Sarah, age 20, Fernee were listed on a manifest dated 6 Nov 1883 for the Duke of Buccleuch, arriving in Cooktown from Plymouth, England. [Note: These two are likely brother and sister Joseph William and Sarah Elizabeth. A Geo Meachem, 21, arrived in Brisbane from Plymouth, England on the Dorunda 8 April 1882 - probably Sarah Elizabeth's future husband].4 
MarriageHe married Sara Gilbert Mahaffy in 1888 in Queensland.5

FERNEE-MAHAFFY (silver wedding) - On the 17th September, 1888, by the Rev J Castlehow, at the residence of G Meacham, Esq., North Rockhampton, Joseph W Fernee, of London, England, to Sara G Mahaffy, of Lurgon Ireland. Present address, Flemington-road, Melbourne.6
 
(Next-of-kin) AIFJoseph William Fernee was listed as next-of-kin on the Australian Imperial Force attestation papers of Leonard Douglas Fernee on 16 Feb 1916. He was recorded as father Joseph William Fernee of Royal Hotel, Flemington-road, North Melbourne, Victoria.7 
Residence-Moved On 19 Feb 1919, Joseph William and Sara Gilbert moved to "Carlisle", Essex Road, Surrey Hills, Victoria.8

Fernee, and loving father of Arthur, Gilbert, Leonard, and Mabel (Mrs. Goode, Mackay, Q.), and brother of Mrs. G. Meacham (Longreach, Q.), brother-in-law of Wm., Robert, and Charlotte (Dol) Mahaffy, aged 60 years and 11 months. (Interred at Box Hill Cemetery, 19th May.)10
