MRS ELIZABETH MEACHAM

The death occurred in Brisbane on Sunday of Mrs Elizabeth Meacham, relic of the late Mr George Meacham, at the age of 90 years. Mrs Meacham resided in Longreach for many years till 1930.

The late Mrs Meacham (nee Elizabeth Fernee) wa born in Bromley, Kent, England, and came to Rockhampton as a young lady, and here her marriage to Mr George Meacham was celebrated in 1883. They followed the construction of the Central Railway, eventually arriving in Longreach, where Mr Meacham opened the local branch of Meacham and Leyland, and which branch he managed till his death on July 18, 1930.

Following her husband's passing, deceased moved to Graceville, Brisbane, where she had resided for the past 20 years. She was active till about three weeks before her death, when she spent this short period in hospital, after which she returned home, and her passing was not altogether unexpected.

The late Mrs Meacham left very many warm friends in Longreach, where she was a keen and active worker for the Methodist Church.

There were seven children of her marriage with Mr Meacham, of whom five are still living. They are Mr Lionel Meacham (Biggenden),
Mr William Meacham (Bundaberg), Mr Fred Meacham (Longreach), Mrs Elsie Lawrance (Malenery), and Miss Lilian Meacham (Graceville).
