1911 CensusMay Smart appeared on the 1911 Census of Winnipeg, Manitoba, at 303 College Avenue. She was lodging with the family of an immigration chaplain. The other lodgers were from Austria, Bohemia, and Ontario. May was single, age 27, born in June 1883 in England, immigrated in 1910, a Congregationalist, and was employed in an office as a stenographer.6 
(Listed) Passenger ListMay Smart had been for a visit to England with her sister-in-law. She was found on a passenger manifest dated 24 July 1913 for the SS Victorian, arriving in Quebec from Liverpool. The returning Canadians included Ellen Smart (24), Mabel (3), Herbt (9/12), and May (adult). Their destination was Winnipeg. Ellen first came to Canada to Dauphin in 1905. May had been living in Winnipeg for 3 years.7
MarriageShe married James Arthur McIlvride, son of Thomas G McIlvride, on 8 May 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.8,9
 
1916 CensusJames Arthur and Mary McIlvride appeared on the 1916 Census of Winnipeg, Manitoba, at 365 Boyd Avenue, enumerated 1 Jun 1916. James was 31 years of age and a decorator. Mary was 33. They were both born in England, Methodist, and immigrated in 1910.4 
(Mentioned) WillShe was mentioned in the will of William James Smart dated 16 Aug 1921. Daughter Mary was to receive £100 and one fifth of the residue of the estate.10

On September 22, 1977 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Mary McIlvride, aged 94 years, of 2350 Portage Ave., widow of James Arthur McIlvride.
Mrs. McIlvride was born in London, England. She came to Winnipeg before the Second World War and had resided here since. She was a member of the Fort Garry Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine.
Her husband predeceased her in 1950.
Surviving are two sisters in England, a sister, Dorothy of Vancouver and two nieces, Margaret McGowan and Bernice Ellor of Winnipeg.
Funeral service will be held in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, Broadway at Furby, Saturday September 24 at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Walter Cowan will officiate. The service will terminate at the chapels with cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favourite charity.8
