John Inkster and Abigail Marion lived in Stromness parish in the Orkney Islands in far northern Scotland during the 1790s and early 1800s. They had a family of six children there and it is not known where they were before or after that time. From 1791-1797, John worked for the Hudson's Bay Company in Eastmain, Quebec.

Only one child and his progeny have been traced so far.  William was born in 1798 and migrated to Hastings County, Ontario, Canada in 1820. Some of William's descendants remained in Ontario while others followed the pattern of moving west to the prairies and on to British Columbia.
