Information from registration: William Inkster, son of William Hempstreet, blacksmith, & Abigle Inkster, informant William Hempstreet Port Elgin, registered 12 April 1878.1 
(with Parents) 1881 CensusWilliam I Hempstreet appeared on the 1881 Census of Port Elgin, Bruce County, Ontario with his parents. He was 3 years old and born in Ontario.3 
(with Parents) 1891 CensusWilliam I Hemstreet appeared on the 1891 Census of Owen Sound, Grey County, Ontario with his parents. He was 13, born in Ontario, parents born in Ontario, religion Canada Presbyterian, and a student.4 
1901 CensusWm Hemstreet appeared on the 1901 Census of Banff, Alberta, Northwest Territories. He was with about two dozen woodsmen & labourers at Eau Clair Camp in unsurveyed territory. William was born 14 March 1877 in Ontario, age 24, of Irish origin, Presbyterian, and was employed as a woodsman.5 
MarriageHe married Lucy Emma Dunning.6
 
Land Record Between Mar 1905 and Apr 1905, William Inkster Hemstreet homesteaded at NE 18-16-23-W2. This was near the town of Belleplaine, between Moose Jaw and Regina, which was served by the CPR. At the time this was in the District of Assiniboia, later Saskatchewan. His brother Nelson also applied for land near there.7 
1911 CensusWm and Lucy Hemstreet appeared on the 1911 Census of Saskatchewan, at section 18 township 16 range 23 W2. William was a farmer, age 33, born March 1878 in Ontario, English, Methodist and held $2000 in life insurance, costing $72. Lucy was 25, and born April 1886 in P.E.I. They had one son, Harold E, age 2. Also in the household were brother in law Jas Dunnings (born Sept 1887 in PEI, age 23, single, farmer), a lodging labourer (who worked 52 weeks at 70 hours a week and earned $400), and William's brother Albert (age 21, farmer).6 
1916 CensusWilliam and Lucy Hemstreet appeared on the 1916 Census of Township 16 Range 23 W2, Saskatchewan, enumerated 31 Jul 1916. William was 36, of English origin, and a farmer and employer. Lucy was 30 and of Scotch origin. Their children were Harold (8) and Lucy (5) [sic]. The family was Methodist and they were all born in Ontario. With them was one farm labourer.8 
NoteHe along with William Delmar Mantz, applied for a Canadian patent for a disc scraper on 11 Mar 1918. The patent was issued on October 1st of that year.9 
1921 CensusWilliam and Lucy Emma appeared on the 1921 Census of Pense, Saskatchewan, at Section 18 Township 16 Range 23 W2. They owned their 4 room wood house and the family was Presbyterian. William was 46?, born in Ontario, parents born in Ontario, of Scotch origin, and was a farmer working his own farm. Lucy Emma was 33, born in PEI, parents born in PEI, of Scotch origin. Their children were Harold (12), Edith (7), and Claudia (1).10 
Residence-Moved Circa 1950, William Inkster Hemstreet moved to British Columbia.2 
DeathWilliam died on 18 Oct 1952 in Ganges, Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
Information from certificate: William Inskter [sic] Hemstreet, has been on Salt Spring Island for 6 months and in B.C. for 2 years, permanent residence 1321 May Street, Victoria, Scotch origin, widowed, born March 13th 1878 in Owen Sound, Ontario, age 74 years 7 months 5 days, was a farmer, retired in 1950. Wife was Lucy Emma Dunning, father William Hemstreet, mother Margaret Inskter both born in Ontario. The informant was his daughter Mrs. Claudia A Nelson of Lake Cowichan, B.C.2 
BurialHe was buried on 22 Oct 1952 in Royal Oak Burial Park, Saanich, British Columbia.2
