Dora was 25, born in August 1885 in Ontario. They were Presbyterian. Thomas worked 52 weeks at 60 hours a week for $2000 With them was their son Alexander (3) and a domestic who earned either $150 or 180 [hard to read].5

Research Note From 1867 to 1968, a person wishing to obtain a divorce was first required to place a notice of intent to petition the government for an Act of Divorce in the Canada Gazette and in two newspapers in the district or county where the petitioner resided. It was to appear for a six-month period. If the petition was allowed, Parliament would pass an Act of Divorce to nullify the marriage and a transcript of the Act was published in the Statutes of Canada for the current year. The Canadian Gazette notice for this couple was as follows:
Notice is hereby given that Dora Lumsden MacLaurin, of the City of Ottawa, in the County of Carleton and Province of Ontario, will apply to the Parliament of Canada, at the next Session thereof, for a Bill of Divorce from her husband, Thomas Graham MacLaurin, of the City of Montreal, in the District of Montreal, and Province of Quebec, on the ground of adultery.
Dated at Ottawa, in the Province of Ontario, this sixth day of January, A.D. 1920."8
