1841 CensusJohn and Isabella Kinross appeared on the 1841 Census of Muthill, Perthshire, at Gannochan. John was 55, a Farmer, and was born in this county. Isabella was 50 and born in this county. They had two children with them, Jean and John, both 15 and born in Perthshire. [Ages were rounded down in the 1841 census]. Also in the household were three female servants. In a separate house at Gannochan were five male servants, ranging in age from 10 to 20.6

Creditors of John Kinross, farmer, cattle-dealer, and shipowner, residing at Gannochan, in the county of Perth, will receive a first and final dividend at the writing chambers of Patrick Graham Morison, writer, Port Street, Stirling, 9th January.9
 
1851 CensusHe appeared on the 1851 Census of Muthill, Perthshire, at Gannochan, enumerated 30 Mar 1851. John was a widower, age 66, a Farmer of 258 Acres employing 10 labourers. His son John was living with him, as well as two house servants and five farm laborers ages 12 to 24.10 
Item On 24 Jul 1852, John Kinross and John Kinross father and son signed a deed of agreement - John Kinross senior made over to John Kinross junior the stocking and effects on the farm of Gannochan.11

To son John Kinross Junior residing at Gannochan, all and sundry lands and heritages houses, tenements and heritable property and also all goods, gear debts and sums of money, and in general the whole means, estate and effects heritable and moveable, real and personal

To John Kinross Junior, the piece of ground with the buildings thereon in the town of Braco, measuring in front 59 feet, and extending backwards 160 feet and bounded on the west by the street on the east side of the square in the town of Braco, leading to Feddal road, on the north by the street 40 feet wide running west of the Turnpike Road into the said square, on the East by the Manse Lane and on the south by the Common Bleaching Green of Braco

Regarding an Instrument of Sasine in favor of himself and daughter Jean Kinross recorded 15 April 1843, assigns the Writs and the rents and resigns the said lands for new Infeftment

Appoints John Kinross Junior to be sole Executor

To pay all debts, sickbed and funeral expenses

To retain £378 due by John Robertson residing at Rottearns, or as much as may be recovered, in trust for behoof of daughter Jean Kinross wife of the said John Robertson in liferent and her children in fee. To be used as John Kinross Junior shall think fit, either for the maintenance and support of Jean Kinrosss and her children or to pay to her to use as she may think proper. The sum shall not be subject to her husband’s debts or obligations

Mentions a Contract between himself and John Kinross Junior dated 24 July 1852, which transferred to him the interest in and the stocking and effects of the farm of Gannochan

DeathJohn died on 29 Nov 1861 in Ganochan, Muthill, Perthshire.
Information from certificate: John Kinross, farmer, widower, died at 11 a.m., age 77 1/2 years, father John Kinross, farmer, dec'd, mother Helen Kinross maiden surname Dawson, dec'd. Cause was natural decay, no medical attendant. Informant was son John, present who registered the death on December 4th.14 
ProbateHis estate was probated on 28 Nov 1862 in Dunblane, Perthshire.

Joseph McLean Writer in Dunblane as Procurator for John Kinross Junior at Gannochan gave in an Inventory of the personal Estate of John Kinross Senior residing in Gannochan in the Parish of Ardoch and County of Perth who died at Gannochan on the 29 November 1861.

(Included) Gravestone Chances are slim that we will ever know all the valuable wording on this gravestone. This photo was taken in 1962 and the stone has since disappeared from the cemetery. The names are from 3 generations: John Kinross & Helen Dawson, John Kinross & Isabella Eadie, & John Kinross and Elizabeth Graham Stirling.15
