The attestation papers included the following information: Alec Dawe, 31 Greenwood Ave Toronto, born 28 April 1896 in Plymouth Devonshire, next of kin mother Gertrude Dawe, Printer, single, served 3 years in Canadian Field Artillery L Corp, age 19 years 8 months, height 5' 7 1/4", expanded chest 41", fair complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair.2 
Military He served as a Gunner with the Canadian Army Service Corps 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column and as a Bombardier with the Canadian Artillery 3rd Trench Mortar Battery, V Battery Company. Alec was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal.3 
MarriageHe married Euphemia Catherine Stafford on 12 Apr 1921 in Port Elgin, Bruce County, Ontario.

Married by A.J. MacGillivray of Guelph, Presbyterian [he is Euphemia's mother's first cousin]. Witnesses were Thos Swalwell of Port Elgin [Euphemia's aunt's husband] and M. Stafford of 55 Alexander Street, Toronto [Euphemia's sister Mary].1 
1921 CensusAlexander and Phemia Dawe appeared on the 1921 Census of Toronto, Ontario, at 284 Beech Avenue. They owned their 6 room brick veneer home. Alexander was 24, born in England, immigrated in 1903, and worked as a Printer, earning $1800 the previous year. Phemia was 22, born in Ontario, parents born in Ontario, and was of French origin [sic]. With them was Alexander's widowed mother Gertrude (60) and one boarder. The family was Anglican.4 
DeathAlec died in 1960.5
