Unfortunately AncestryDNA does not let us see exactly which segment(s) of which chromosome(s) we share. We need that information to map our chromosomes and advance our DNA research.

Fortunately, we can use Gedmatch. Gedmatch is a noncommercial site where people who have tested at any of the companies can compare their DNA results with one another. It is free but you can subscribe for even more functions beyond the basic comparisons. The analysis tools at Gedmatch are great.

Essentially what you need to do is download a copy of your Raw DNA text file from AncestryDNA and upload it to Gedmatch.com

1. Register at https://genesis.gedmatch.com

2. Log in to your Ancestry account.

3. Click on the settings button at the top right corner of the page.

4. Click on the Download Raw DNA Data button.

5. Follow the prompts and download the file to your computer. Make note of where you save the file.

6. Log in to Gedmatch.

7. Click on the "Generic Upload FAST" link and follow the instructions.

8. Uploading a GEDCOM of your family tree is a very good idea but is optional and can be done later.

9. Gedmatch will assign you a kit number beginning with a couple of letters followed by several numbers.

Please let me know what your kit # is so that I can begin analyzing our connection.
