It was William's second marriage and Cora's first; they had been married 21 years. Cora was the mother of 7 children, 6 still living. At home were John (19, coal miner), Thomas (12), Alfred (9), Lester (2), and Alice (13). Thomas, Alfred, and Alice attended school.4 
1920 CensusCora Todd appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Tilden, Randolph County, Illinois, at Crawford Street, enumerated 9 Jan 1920. She was 49, a widow, born in Illinois, and worked as a laundress at home on her own account. Her children were Alfred (18, driver in a coal mine), Lester (13), Jennie (8), and Oscar (5).5 
1940 CensusCora Todd appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Tilden, Randolph County, Illinois. She was 62, a widow, had a 3rd grade education, and was born in Illinois. Cora worked as a household aid for the WPA, earning $465. With her was her divorced son Jack (26) and his two children Jackie and Lorretta. Jack worked as a timekeeper for the WPA, earning $1015. They lived in the same house as in 1935.6
