Details from the register: Edward's surname was spelled "Cordle". He was a bachelor and Jane a spinster, and both of the parish. They were married with the consent of parents and the witnesses were [Edward's brother] Charles Cordell and Mary Cordell, both of whom signed with an X.1 
1841 CensusEdward and Jane Cordill [sic] appeared on the 1841 Census of Harlow, Essex, at Foster Street. Edward was an Agricultural Labourer. He and Jane were both 30 [ages were rounded down in the 1841 census] and the entire family was born in Essex. Their children were Mary (10), William (9), Ann (7), and Edward (1). Also with them was William Ailey (4).2 
1851 CensusEdward and Jane Cordell appeared on the 1851 Census of Harlow, Essex, at Foster Street. The whole family was born in Harlow. Edward was 41 and a General Dealer. Jane was 39. Their children were William (19, ag lab), Edward (11, ag lab), Emma (9), Charles (6), Francis (4), and Elizabeth (2.)3 
1861 CensusEdward and Jane appeared on the 1861 Census of Harlow, Essex, at Foster Street. Edward was 51, a Marine Store Dealer, and born in Harlow. Jane was 48 and born in Harlow. With them were their children Edward (21), Charles (16), Francis (13), John (9), and Ellen (4). They were all born in Harlow and the 4 boys were Agricultural Labourers.4 
1871 CensusEdward and Jane appeared on the 1871 Census of Harlow, Essex, at Foster Street. Edward was 61 and a Marine Store Dealer. Jane was 58. Their children were Francis (25, Ag Lab), Ellen (14, Helper in Trade), and John (19, under Gardener). Also with them was cousin Frederick Cordell (4), whose mother was dead. All were born in Harlow.5 
DeathEdward died in 1879.6
