(Widowed) DeathHis wife Joanna died in 1838. The register recorded that she was 30 years old, lived in Cowick Street, and was buried May 27th.3

1851 CensusJoseph and Ellen Stocker appeared on the 1851 Census of Plymouth, Devon, at 8 Looe Street. Joseph was 36, a Mason, born in Broadclist. Ellen was 26, born in Bristol. With them was their nephew Walter Pearse (10, Masons App). [Walter was the son of Joseph's sister Elizabeth]6 
1861 CensusJoseph and Ellen appeared on the 1861 Census of Stroud, Gloucestershire, at Wallbridge. Joseph was 44, a Bricklayer, and was born in Broadclist Devonshire. Ellen was 37, born in Bristol. With them was Joseph's nephew Walter Pearce (20, Royal Navy.)7 
1871 CensusJoseph and Ellen appeared on the 1871 Census of Stroud, Gloucestershire, at 51 High Street. Joseph was 56, a Licensed Victualer, born in Broadclist Devonshire. Ellen was 44, born in Bristol. With them was their niece Bessie Stocker (8, born in Broadclist). [Bessie was the daughter of Joseph's brother John whose wife died in 1862]8
